I don't know about the fishing in the Crystal River yet this is probably the most beautiful river in Colorado. A side trip to Redstone and the old townsite of Crystal shouldn't be missed. It use to be possible to look inside one of the enormous caverns where they mine the marble. While its still worth a drive up to the mine, sadly the quarry trail is permanently closed. Marble is worth a visit just to see the ruins of the old processing mill and you can pick up a few pieces of the white stuff to use as cab backings or to practice carving if you want to try. The population was 16,206 at the 2010 census. The Creede locals are always very friendly. Park County is considered to be the geographic center of the state of Colorado. Add in the fishing and this place seems like a good fit for you. In Creede you can visit the Last Chance turquoise mine for collecting, the Underground Mining museum plus there area lot of other places to collect rocks. If you're looking for some other trip options keep Creede and Marble in mind. It looks like you had a nice outing with the kids.
